July 12, 2012

As you can see we were successful in requiring our International Driving Permit! We have also acquired all of our necessary insurances and notified banks, mail, parole officer, just kidding, etc. that we are leaving the country for two weeks. Amazing how much prep goes into a trip like this. And getting ready to leave the kids behind adds a lot to it: daily routine info., medication(s), emergency contacts, ways to contact one another, and notarized letters giving permission to take care of just about anything that could possibly go wrong. Whew! If I didn't need one before I sure NEED a vacation now!

And now that I have bored you with all that information on to the fun stuff. Joel has been corresponding with our new Spanish hosts through couchsurfing.org and I feel as though we already have a dozen friends waiting anxiously to show us their country.

We arrive in Madrid on Sunday morning and will meet our first host Segio at his flat in Madrid around 1pm and then he is immediately whisking us off to a party. We plan on staying in Madrid two nights and then head off to Santiago de Compostela.

Wednesday June 13

Today we, I should say Joel, worked on getting things needed for our International drivers license.  We decided that renting a car was the most economical and time saving way to travel. I like that we won't be racing from one station to the next and we will have somewhere to drop our backpacks if necessary.
Tomorrow we will go to AAA the licenses. One step closer!

And so it begins

And so it begins...it's 11:34pm Tuesday June 12th, the last day of school, and we, Joel and I, are pouring over travel books, maps and endless tabs on our computers planning our trip to Spain.
Itinerary...check
Planned mode of travel...check
room and board...check

It's all coming together.. this blog is being created so our family can keep in touch with us while we are  away. So the boys (hi Curtis and Ian) can follow along.
